The Count uses him not just as a loyal friend but, to get vital information about Villefort and Caderousse. He remains static, himself throughout the book. He is very vengeful like Monte Cristo, but also very trustworthy.Īlthough he is a "weapon" of the Counts, and plays a major role in Monte Cristo's revenge, there is not a lot of change in his personality. We don't see any change in personality with him.Įdwards death in the book makes the Count reevaluate his justifications for revenge and his belief that "a son should receive all of his fathers sins." The Count feeling great remorse over the death of this young boy, shows yet again how compassionate he really is, which all together launches the plot and makes the Count more vengeful.īertuccio- A loyal friend to the Count of Monte Cristo. He serves the purpose in the story as a static character. It shows a side of the Count that we have only seen once with Mercedes at the beginning of the book.Įdward de Villefort- The young son to the second Madame de Villefort. With Maximillian being in love with her and The Count of Monte Cristo whom loves Maximillian, he saves Valentine's life out of love for maximillian. She is a static character, does not change in the story. She is very kind, beautiful, everyone loves her. Valentine de Villefort- Daughter of the first Madame de Villefort.

He is a good fried who has the Count's back. Jacopo serves the purpose of saving the Count from the large tides when the Count escaped from Chateau d'If and tending to him while he is is wounded. Jacopo is the same friendly, kind, trustworthy friend from the beginning. Very simple, loyal, devoted, and trustworthy. They first meet when Dantes escapes from Chateau d'If, swimming toward the ship that Jacopo was on and being eventually saved by him. Jacopo- A very good friend to Edmond Dantes. jack- "alope" and she shows that Monte Cristo is not still hung up about being in love with Mercedes. She doesn't do much to move the plot other than she makes Fernand look even more like a. There wasn't really an important change in her personality/opinion of things as a whole but, there was obviously a change in circumstances (the Count "rescuing" her) that changed her emotions. She later became the Count's slave and lover.Īt first we see her sad and depressed (being sold into slavery and whatnot) but when she starts he life with the Count she is saved from all of that. Haydee- The daughter of Ali, Fernand betrayed and sold her into slavery. He brings out the mentoring (fatherly) side in the Count. They bond over their great misfortunes and Maximillian eventually gets a large sum of the Counts fortune. He serves almost as a "student" or "little brother" to the Count. He begins as a boy in love, but then after Valentine's (his lovers) death, he turns into a man full of vengeance and then, again, when Valentine is "reborn" he is in love and happy again. (which may be expected of him because he is in love) A very loyal and devoted friend of the Count. Maximillian Morrel- The son of Monsieur Morrel. This event pushes the plot along even further. She meets the Count when he is "Sinbad the Sailor" (one of his many personas),He sends her on an errand to acquire money to pay of her fathers debt. In her brief role that she plays, she is static throughout, does not seem to change significantly. Julie Morrel Herbault- Monsieur Morrels daughter.Ī very good daughter, willing to do anything to make her father happy and pay off her fathers tremendous debt. His death is used as a plot device to add to the motives/reasons for Edmond Dantes (The Count of Monte Cristo's) revenge.

Throughout the story Monsieur Dantes stays stays the same, very caring and kind. The only change he encounters is his devastating death. Monsieur Dantes- Edmond Dantes old father whom he loves unconditionally.Įxtremely kind and loving especially to his only son (Edmond Dantes), the very thing that makes him naive to others around him.
